Man, I wasn’t surprised at all. I already posted in the forum last week asking, “Will Onana still have a spot in the squad?” Beşiktaş has made big changes in both defense and midfield lately, so it looks like finding a place for Onana has become tougher. He’s physically strong and can lead, but even if he can’t wear the black‑and‑white jersey anymore, I don’t think it’s a huge loss – basically, if he didn’t fit the team dynamics, the coach wouldn’t have seen anything in him.
I’ve gone through the same thing at Fenerbahçe, when midfielders who’d been there for years saw their chances of staying in the squad shrink; every club has to establish its own style. Even if Onana hits a lull in his career, he’s still young and could move to another team at any moment. Like I said on the forum, the real issue for Beşiktaş isn’t these surprise transfer moves, but figuring out how to use the players they have in the best way.
