When planning CrossFit workouts, choosing the right duration and intensity is crucial. Which do you find more effective: short and intense Tabata sets, the EMOM format where reps increase every minute, or the AMRAP approach with no set time limit? What are the advantages and challenges of each? Based on your own experience and goals, which method do you prefer and why? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I've tried all three formats pretty consistently over the past year, and I usually lean towards EMOM for most of my strength-focused days and Tabata when I need a quick cardio boost. EMOM forces you to maintain a steady work rate while still giving you that "reset" each minute, which has helped me add 5 kg to my deadlift PR by keeping the bar speed high without burning out. Tabata's 20-second all-out intervals are brutal, but I love how they spike my heart rate and improve my recovery between sprints—perfect for the days I miss a full WOD because of a match. AMRAP is great for endurance and testing mental grit, but I've found it can get unfocused unless I have a clear movement plan; otherwise, I end up wasting reps on easy moves instead of hitting the heavy lifts I'm targeting. So, my go-to is EMOM for strength and conditioning balance, Tabata for high-intensity cardio spikes, and I save AMRAP for the occasional "benchmark" day when I want to push volume.
