The match aired on Star TV at 10 p.m. last night, bro. Yeah, we shouldn’t disrespect the guys watching live from the stands, and for anyone who doesn’t want to miss the kickoff, here’s a quick rundown.
Tactically it was actually pretty interesting. While Fenerbahçe were making quick transitions through the middle, Lyon’s tendency to sit deep and block was obvious. What caught my eye was Kruse’s contributions in tight spaces, especially in the second half when he compressed the midfield and shut down Lyon’s attacks. Looking at the goals, when I break down the trajectory and power of Fernandes’s first free‑kick, there was zero chance for Lyon’s keeper in that position. The other goal came from Oosterwolde stubbornly shrinking the huge space, hanging back behind the striker and waiting for the opponent to lay the ball off; he then grabbed it and finished on the counter. That was a crucial back‑run moment.
