While I was watching yesterday’s match I kept thinking, “Man, what the heck is happening?” Maybe the officiating committees are slipping a note to foreign refs like “play a bit rough, but stay super careful,” who knows. At the very least, the VAR system could be a bit more transparent—let them broadcast those critical clips in full.
