Well, I also chucked in the towel because of a transfer rumor recently, mate. My situation was more about mountaineering than football, but the story’s the same. A year ago, I was supposed to join FSV Erlangen—had even packed my suitcase, I was so sure! Later, I found out the club president and the manager couldn’t agree on the broker fee or something, and the sponsorship fell through.
Anyway, when it got canceled, I freaked out a bit, thinking, “Wow, now I’m stuck out here in the east.” But then I realized: staying in Erlangen might’ve been better for me. I could’ve really settled in with the local team, avoided the hassle of moving abroad. If Oosterwolde had gone to Roma, he might’ve struggled to even find the team in the first few months (thanks to their chaotic tactics), and sticking with Fenerbahçe was smart—helped him lock in his position and solidify his spot among the fanatics.
Man, I went through a similar situation last year too! Mertcan, our team's midfielder, was also rumored to be transferring to a Champions League team. In the end, that transfer deal also fell through, and Mertcan stayed with the team. At first, we were all disappointed, and he was stressed out, thinking, "Will I never get to go?"
But look, Mertcan really stepped up this season! He took on more responsibility, secured his spot in the lineup, and is finally performing at his best. I actually think it was good for him to stay at Fenerbahçe because sometimes, if you're forced to stay at another club or struggle to adapt after leaving, it can set back your career. If Oosterwolde goes through the same thing, it could be beneficial for both the team and himself. Plus, the foreign player quota in Turkish football is a stressful issue—he might have struggled with that at Roma too.
