Thermoplastics (PLA, ABS, PETG, etc.) are the most beginner-friendly options, especially since PLA is made entirely from renewable corn starch and is non-toxic. ABS has better flexibility but gives off a strong odor during printing, while PETG is both durable and food-safe. From my experience, I prefer PLA for durable prototypes and toys, whereas I’ve used ABS for mechanical parts—though it struggles in poorly ventilated spaces unless you have proper exhaust. Resins (rigid, flexible, casting resin) cure under UV light and produce a smoothness almost identical to glass—my prints for character models and dental prosthetics came out incredibly stable. But watch out for resin’s brittleness and chemical fumes! Metal powders (aluminum, titanium) offer industrial-grade quality, but the cost and post-processing (like sintering) require experience, making them more suitable for long-term investments beyond prototyping. If your project demands precision, go for resin; if durability is key, stick with thermoplastics; and for dynamic loads, metal powder is the way to go.
