I absolutely love the simplicity and accessibility of FDM, especially for prototyping in mobile projects. The variety of material options, the ability to work anywhere, and the ease of swapping parts are super appealing. But when it comes to details, SLA/Resin’s insane precision is unbeatable. For tiny electronic components or parts with fine details, resin’s smooth surface and high resolution are unmatched. So, how much of a trade-off do you make between print quality and speed in your use case? Is FDM’s slight roughness or resin’s brittleness just a necessary cost sometimes?
FDM is my go-to for sure. When teaching kids Arduino and basic electronics projects in Anatolia, the ease and durability of FDM-printed parts save me a ton of time. For example, the parts I print for enclosures or robot legs are both quick to make and sturdy. Plus, the filament options are easy to find and budget-friendly, so I can experiment without breaking the bank.
That said, resin/SLA’s fine details are a godsend for intricate models—like gears for stepper motors or tiny figurines. The results are insane. But as a teacher, constantly dealing with resin isn’t practical, so FDM’s convenience wins for me. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your needs—I’d recommend figuring out what works for *you*.
