These days, interest in smart bands is growing, but which features should you focus on? Some are limited to heart rate monitoring, while others offer in-depth data like oxygen levels, sleep analysis, and even stress management. Battery life and sync speed are also important, of course. So, what criteria do you prioritize? Do you start with budget, or are you looking for health-focused features? I’d love to hear your general approach.

Smart bands have standardized heart rate monitoring, but when it comes to SpO2 (oxygen saturation) and sleep analysis modes, things get serious. For oxygen saturation measurements, sensors need to use NIR (Near-Infrared) wavelengths—typically analyzing the difference in light absorption at 900nm and 660nm. Calibration accuracy is key here; inaccurate readings often stem from poor sensor-to-skin contact or motion artifacts. Garmin’s Venu 3 series excels in this area by taking 30-second averages for SpO2 readings to ensure stability. For budget-conscious buyers, Xiaomi’s Mi Band 8 Pro is an interesting option, offering a 1.62" AMOLED display and up to 16 days of battery life for around $100. However, for advanced stress management features like EDA (ElectroDermal Activity) sensors—which measure skin response—you’ll need something like the Apple Watch Series 9 or Withings ScanWatch 2. In a good smart band, you can overlook everything except battery life—because if it needs charging every night, the user experience takes a major hit. Garmin’s Forerunner 265 lasts up to 15 days, while Polar’s Ignite 3 only manages 5 days. If you're on Android, Wear OS sync speed matters—Google’s optimizations mean the Pixel Watch 2 can sync data with your phone in just 2-3 seconds. For iPhone users, Apple’s proximity detection API helps, but it cuts off sync the moment you take the Watch off your wrist, which can be annoying.

Thanks for sharing! If I were to choose for my daughter, I'd start with the budget first. So, which model are you considering based on the budget?
