I want everything to work seamlessly together when setting up smart home systems. I care about things like synchronization between different devices, security vulnerabilities, and data privacy. You guys, what do you generally pay attention to? Which architecture makes more sense? Should we go for a centralized system, a distributed IoT setup, or a hybrid approach? I want to learn from your experiences.
What should we consider when setting up a smart home?

I've looked more into Xiaomi's products, and I like their seamless ecosystem and affordability, but I'm not sure how the devices will recognize each other without a central Hub. With hub-less systems, if each device communicates individually, won't we face synchronization issues?
I've struggled with this issue before too, and in the end, I went with that "everything can be voice-controlled" brand kit. Turns out the phone app, speakers, and lights kept dropping connections, and there was even a password leak bug. Now I've switched to a hybrid setup—core devices (entry gateway, cameras) run on the local network, while the smaller gadgets connect to third-party cloud services. Finally, things are much more stable.
