Zigbee and Z-Wave are known for their low power consumption, making them ideal for battery-powered sensors. WiFi, on the other hand, offers wider coverage but has a disadvantage in terms of battery life. For example, my Zigbee bulbs at home haven't required any battery changes in the past two years.

The biggest advantage of Thread is that it supports a mesh network. This means every device can relay the signal to neighboring devices, expanding the coverage area—unlike WiFi, which relies on a single access point. I’ve personally used Thread devices with mesh support and noticed WiFi signal loss in areas where Thread maintained a strong connection, so it really works. When it comes to security, Thread is certified under Thread Group standards, making it more secure, while WiFi networks can vary widely in security. Smart speakers zigzagging around the house trying to pick up Wi-Fi signals? Might as well just go with Zigbee at that point 😂🔥 And spare us the nonsense of calling the new-gen Z-Wave some kind of revolutionary upgrade!
