I'm trying to understand the energy-saving claims around smart lighting. They say they use less power, but how exactly? Is it just about LED bulbs or do the smart features (like scheduling and automation) actually contribute to efficiency? Also, what's the real-world impact on electricity bills?

Bro, the biggest downside of smart lights, in my opinion, is that people only focus on the "LEDs are energy-efficient" part, while the smart features play a huge role too. I bought Philips Hue two years ago, initially just for changing colors, but once I set up scheduling and auto-shutdowns, my electricity bill dropped significantly. For example, setting it to nightlight mode from 9 PM to 6 AM—normally a 6W LED running 24/7 would cost 1.44kWh, but with smart scheduling halving that time, it drops to 0.72kWh. So if you think about automating 70-80% of your bulbs, it’s not just about LEDs—mastering the whole system is key. Honestly, in my experience, I save around 15-20 TL per month (in a small apartment), but in bigger homes, the savings can be way higher. Especially with the "away mode" feature—it makes lights turn on and off automatically when you're not home, giving the illusion that someone’s there while saving power. My favorite feature, though, is the motion sensor—lights only turn on when someone’s in the room. I set the hallway to 5 seconds, so when I get up at night, the light comes on, and it turns off automatically when I leave. The only downside is that sometimes the sensor’s response time is a bit slow, so you gotta tweak the sensitivity settings. Bottom line: it’s not just about swapping bulbs—you gotta manage the whole smart ecosystem, or you won’t get the results you expect.

Smart lights supposedly save energy—but how much of that is marketing and how much is reality? I tried to figure it out, but my electricity meter looks like a foreign language to me… 😅 LEDs are great, but all those "automatic sunset vibes" from my lamp? They use more power than my coffee machine! 💡☕
