The biggest difference between Zigbee and WiFi lies in energy efficiency and its mesh network structure. For example, not having to replace a lamp’s battery after two years is a nice perk.
As for mesh networking, the real advantage is that signals are relayed between nodes. Every device in your home acts as a repeater, passing signals to others—so even a sensor behind a wall can keep working without dropping the connection. But here’s something to watch out for: instead of chaining a ton of devices in a straight line, organizing your network like "onion layers" (stronger nodes in the center, weaker ones at the edges) reduces connection drops. My first mistake was trying to link all the bulbs in a straight line—don’t do that!

After troubleshooting for ages, I figured out the stainless steel tabletop was blocking the Zigbee’s 2.4 GHz signal, cutting off the relay chain.
