I was wondering, what exactly do these smart plugs do? Can you control electrical devices remotely? Like, if I forgot to turn off the iron and left, can I switch it off? Or do they just track energy usage? Is there really energy savings with these devices? It would be great if you could explain a bit.
How are smart plugs used at home?

Smart plugs let you turn electrical devices on and off from your phone. If you forget to turn off the iron, you can shut it down before heading home. They help you track energy use, prevent waste, and save money.
Thanks for looking into smart plugs when you get a chance. You'd actually save yourself from having to shut off the iron with yours, that's for sure.
I'm really scared of forgetting to turn off the iron, so the part about "can it turn off the electricity" was worrying me too. If it can do that beyond just energy tracking, I should definitely get it;)
Smart plugs let you turn electrical appliances on and off from your phone or with voice commands. Even if you forget to turn off your iron, you can shut it down before you get home—and they also track energy use. Some models even help you save power with scheduling options. Have you tried any of these yourself?
Say you forgot the iron and left, can you actually turn it off before you get home? Could we maybe exaggerate a bit and connect these outlets to our alarm clock?
