Guys, I'm thinking about using smart plugs at home, but I have some concerns. Since they're connected to the internet, do they pose a security risk? Or do they just turn the plug on and off, and can they leak data? I'm also planning to use them at my factory—could they harm the network there? What do you guys think?
Are smart plugs reliable, though?

When I used the smart plug and it started slowing down the internet for my other devices at home, I realized it’s basically a tiny modem 😂 I’d never recommend it because it could end up on the factory network—my IT team already gets on my case 😅
Exactly, I was worried about the same thing, honestly. If it’s connected to a clean Wi‑Fi network and the security settings are proper, I don’t think there’s much risk. As for the factory, it only turns the machine’s power on and off, so it doesn’t affect the grid, and I’ve talked to the IT team about security—they didn’t see any major risk either.
