Smart plugs are becoming more common every day, but some users say they constantly have connection issues or slow down more than expected. Do you think these devices are actually reliable for home use, or are they just a "gadget"? Also, how accurate is their promise of monitoring electricity consumption? What should potential buyers consider before investing in such devices?

A few months ago, I replaced the old heater in my apartment with a smart plug so it wouldn’t stay plugged in all the time. At first, it wasn’t bad—I could turn it on and off remotely via the phone app and check the consumption graphs. But by the end of the second month, I kept getting a "connection failed" error with the plug. I reset it to factory settings and set it up again, but the issue persisted. While it *seemed* to show electricity consumption, there was a 10-15% difference between the actual heater consumption and what the app displayed. I’d say the measurement accuracy is a bit shaky. If you’re just using it to turn the heater on remotely, it works fine, but don’t rely on it for consumption tracking. When buying one, check the brand’s local service support—if their cloud servers are problematic, the device just turns into a useless plastic brick. In the end, I switched to a local Zigbee plug; it works completely offline and is much more stable. If you want something beyond just a gadget, pay attention to the brand and connection protocol.
