When looking for secure smart plugs, key factors like AES-128 encryption, regular firmware updates, and local network support should be at the top of the list. These details vary by brand, so it’s important not to overlook them.
The most critical aspect of smart plug reliability is the security of the data flow between your local network and cloud servers. Considering that most models worldwide are Wi-Fi based, these devices remain constantly connected to the internet, which opens the door to potential security vulnerabilities. For example, many manufacturers may delay firmware updates or fail to implement proper encryption standards.
