Smartwatches, which have become part of daily life, come with features like health monitoring, notifications, and exercise tracking. So, are these devices really life-saving or just a luxury? The question that also puzzles me is: How necessary are smartwatches? Do they accurately measure health data? How much does battery life affect the quality of use? How much do you trust this technology? What do you lose if you don't use it? Let's discuss...

When I compare smartwatches to standard digital watches, the biggest difference I see is in "data-driven awareness." A standard wristwatch only tells time and relies on external devices for basic notifications. Smartwatches, on the other hand, provide health metrics like heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and even ECG readings directly from your wrist. This can be especially useful for users with chronic conditions or those managing stress—similar to a continuous glucose monitor, it offers constant data flow for better awareness. However, when comparing battery life between a standard digital watch and a smartwatch, there’s a serious trade-off. A good digital watch can last over a year on a single charge, while smartwatches typically last only 1–3 days. This forces users to charge them nightly. Features like exercise and sleep tracking consume power, so battery life becomes a major factor in usability. If you don’t enjoy frequent charging, a standard watch might be the more practical choice.
