In recent years, sensor technology has been at the forefront of the performance battle among smartwatches. Devices that measure heart rate, ECG, blood oxygen levels, and even stress levels are being released onto the market. So, how accurate and reliable are these sensors? What are the current trends driving sensor development these days? In your opinion, which technology could emerge as the leader in the future? Let’s discuss this together, including the experiences of active users.

I also went through a rigorous testing process with smartwatch sensors, especially when it came to ECG and blood oxygen level measurements. A friend’s Apple Watch kept giving "abnormal rhythm" alerts even though their heart rate was normal. I’ve seen similar issues with other brands—most sensors’ accuracy varies depending on the activity. For example, during a run, the heart rate sensor sometimes showed readings 20 BPM higher, but it was almost accurate at rest. Looking ahead, I think biofeedback sensors (for stress, sleep depth, and even blood sugar monitoring) will dominate. Chinese brands, in particular, are heavily investing in this area with great price-to-performance ratios. However, they still haven’t surpassed Apple and Garmin in reliability—they lead not just in sensor quality but also in algorithm layers.
