I think a universal charging cable would make a lot of sense—right now, every brand has its own cable, which is super confusing. And what if there was a standard like that for sensor data too? Still, don’t dismiss it as pure fantasy. Last year’s EU charger regulation proves momentum exists: by 2026 all wrist-worn IoT gadgets must use USB-C, killing the micro-USB dongle zoo overnight. Open-source RTOS stacks like Zephyr are already creeping into low-cost wearables, so a common sensor abstraction layer (akin to Android’s HAL) isn’t sci-fi—Texas Instruments and Nordic are pushing it in their reference designs. Sensors themselves are the easy part; the real hurdle is data format wars in health metrics.
