Hey guys, what do you think are the advantages or disadvantages of electric vehicles compared to their fossil fuel counterparts? For example, what are your thoughts on battery life, charging infrastructure, maintenance costs, and so on? Do you think it's a mature enough technology, or does it still have a lot of room for improvement? I've been wondering about this myself, how would you approach it?
Are electric vehicles really the future of transportation?

Battery technology has come a long way in recent models. My 70 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery has been running for two years now, and I've only seen about a 5% capacity loss. Of course, if you keep the State of Charge (SoC) between 20-80%, you can expect minimal degradation for up to a decade. Most manufacturers have already incorporated this into their charging algorithms.
As for charging infrastructure, the biggest hassle I've faced, both in the city and on road trips, is waiting—not just at fast-charging stations but also at 3-4 kW AC stations plugged into a 220V outlet. The smartest solution is to charge slowly at home during off-peak hours when electricity is cheaper, and I solved that problem two to three years ago by installing a wall charger—it also saves me 20-30% on my electricity bill.
I think electric vehicles are really exciting, but it's a bit scary to think about where someone like me, who even loses their USB-C charging cable, would plug their car in 😅
