Electric vehicles are confusing me. How efficient are they really compared to gas/diesel cars? Like, what's the deal with charging time, range loss, maintenance costs, etc.? And is battery tech actually improving? What kind of difference are we talking here? Enlighten me, bro 🔌⚡

My friend, let me give you a straight answer: when you compare gasoline/diesel cars to electric ones, the clearest numbers come from range and “energy cost.” For example, if your average car can go 600 km on 60 liters of fuel, it can cover the same distance using home electricity with 120–150 kWh. At 2024 prices, that 600 km trip costs about ₺1,800 in gasoline and roughly ₺500 in electricity. So you’re looking at a direct profit of around 70–75 % in your pocket. As for batteries, there’s been a serious jump in the last three years. The old‑generation 100 kWh lithium‑ion pack weighed about 600 kg, but now there are 450–500 kg packs that give you 700 km of range. With inflation factored in, battery prices have dropped about 30 % per kilowatt. Regarding maintenance, at 200,000 km a gasoline car can see brake pads, oil changes, etc., blowing up to ₺5,000, whereas an EV barely needs anything besides tire and transmission care—you hardly have to worry about the motor at all.
