I'm buying my first smartwatch for my son, can you help? Is battery life more important or the screen? Which health monitoring sensors actually work? Can I also get advice on pricing, what are some budget-friendly options? Thanks, I'm drowning in this new world.
What should I look for when choosing a smartwatch?

When buying your son's first smartwatch, the most important thing is to choose based on its intended use. I've been a Samsung fan for years and have gotten used to their Watch series. If he's into sports or fitness tracking is important, go for a model with long battery life, an AMOLED screen, and a good heart rate sensor. For example, the Galaxy Watch 5 or 6 series are budget-friendly and quite reliable for health monitoring. They have sensors for heart rate, oxygen levels, stress measurement, and sleep quality tracking, and these actually work well.
For a budget around 5,000 TL, you can check out the Watch 5 2022 model or the newer Watch FE model; my brother's kid uses one and has no complaints. If your budget is a bit higher, the Watch 6 Pro is a good option because it's more durable and has better battery life. If you ask me, "Is the screen more important or the battery?" I always prefer battery life because it stays on all day without dying.
Smartwatch? Is this your first one, or are you buying it for your son too? I was just getting used to my new smartphone, and now I'm looking at smartwatches too. I think battery life is probably the most important thing—who has time to charge it every morning just to check if their kid is okay? For health sensors, do you really need heart rate and step count, or is sleep tracking more important?
Of course, battery life is important too, I used to tease my daughter a lot because she’d always burn through her data plan playing games nonstop. I also remember thinking about those sensors—how accurate are heart rate and sleep-tracking sensors, really?
