I've been using Wear OS for a while now, so I've gone through a lot of trial and error with it. At first, even with continuous heart rate monitoring and ECG, my device's battery barely lasted a day. Then I thought, "Do I really need this all the time?" and set the monitoring to every 30 minutes. The battery life immediately improved to 2-3 days. I think adjusting settings based on your actual needs, rather than constant monitoring, makes a big difference.
Another thing I noticed was with synchronization. Some apps were constantly syncing in the background, draining the battery. I limited notifications and syncing to only work when connected to Wi-Fi. Also, keeping the brightness around 50% instead of always at full made a huge difference in battery life. Do you think syncing or screen brightness drains the battery more?
When it comes to battery life, my mind immediately goes to the shots I’ve taken with the Samsung Galaxy Watch series. Just like smartphones, smartwatches also drain the most battery with screen brightness and synchronization settings. For example, on the Galaxy Watch 6, reducing brightness from 50% to 80% makes a nearly 24-hour difference. Switching real-time synchronization from three times a day to once an hour feels like going from half a battery to a full one in terms of WhatsApp notifications.
As for heart rate monitoring and ECG, it’s best to disable continuous tracking and only activate it during workouts. This way, I can get over four days of battery life on the Watch 6 while shooting, but if I run an ECG daily, it drops to 2.5 days. Comparing it to the Apple Watch, I saw similar results, but Wear OS has an advantage with more flexible synchronization settings.
