What does this IoT term I've been hearing a lot lately actually mean? How does it work at its core? What technologies are involved in the background when devices connect to the internet and transmit data? What should we pay attention to in terms of security and energy consumption? In your opinion, in which areas will IoT be more prevalent in the future?

I recently got a smart home setup and used an IoT device for the first time. I realized that essentially, thanks to sensors and microchips, the device connects to the internet and sends data like temperature readings to a cloud-based system for processing. For example, the thermostat in my home communicates with the cloud to measure and adjust the temperature. You definitely shouldn’t forget about encryption for security since data can be intercepted during wireless transmission, and for energy efficiency, it’s important to have settings that allow devices to enter sleep mode. Looking ahead, wearables that track health or urban infrastructure seem like they can’t be imagined without IoT anymore.
