I'm curious about the underlying tech that lets robot vacuums handle irregular rooms. How do they combine lidar, camera, and bump sensors to create reliable maps? Do most units rely on pre-programmed patterns or dynamic SLAM algorithms? Also, what's the typical trade-off between mapping accuracy and battery life? Would a hybrid approach be more efficient? I'd love to hear your insights on how these systems balance navigation precision with practical usage.

As a complete beginner, I thought the robots would just use Google Maps in a mini format—only then did I realize they have more sensors than my phone 🤦‍♂️. I'm sure that SLAM thing guzzles battery like crazy, but a hybrid approach sounds like science fiction to me 😅
