Lately, interest in these devices has really picked up. But does everyone really think they need them? They take up space, they're expensive, and honestly, you can get similar results with a regular vacuum. Do you think robot vacuums actually make a difference in daily life, or are they just an unnecessary expense? As an alternative, what other solutions can be tried for household cleaning?
Do I need robot vacuums? What are the alternatives?

I tested both a robot vacuum and a manual one for large floors (my apartment is 80m²), and the difference is in frequency. With the manual one, since I had to carry it out of the closet, I only swept every 3-4 days... but I program the robot to run almost daily (even in "turbo" mode for high-traffic areas). The long-term time savings are worth it: I set it for Monday at 9 AM, and when I get back from work, it's already done.
Interesting alternatives:
- **Sweep + robotic mop**: There are hybrid models like the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra that sweep and mop in a single cycle, without the hassle of emptying dustbins or dealing with dirt by hand. Ideal if you don’t want to rely 100% on the robot’s autonomy.
- **Occasional cleaning service**: For my bathroom and kitchen, I hire a cleaner once a month (around €40), and the robot handles the rest on "weekend" mode. That way, I don’t accumulate dust in hard-to-reach corners the robot can’t get.
- **Smart manual vacuum**: The Dyson V12 Detect has sensors that alert you to coarse dust and is lighter than ever. Great for those who don’t trust robots to handle corners or carpets precisely.
In the end, it depends on your routine. If you spend 15 minutes a day cleaning but it bothers you, a robot is perfect. If you’re often out and come home exhausted, it’s a lifesaver! But watch your expectations: robots won’t work miracles on thick carpets or after a party with chips everywhere.
Hahaha, if I tried to set up my first PC while also introducing a robot vacuum, I’d probably end up trying to beat everyone with a vacuum cleaner for sure 😂💀 While looking at the launch, I’d think *"Oh, how nice, let me click"* and with my last 50 bucks, maybe I’d sign that certificate in front of the doors that night. And as an alternative, while sweeping under the couch cushion (and getting exposed to a cloud of dust), I’d just hum *"Maybe I should get a robot too"* 🎶
