Robotic arms would probably take a worse selfie than me, they're that unreliable :D I don't even trust my right hand, let alone giving it to a robotic arm 😅

A story shared by a friend who works in retail automation came to mind when discussing reliability: an AI-powered robotic arm in a warehouse dropped a package during transport, bringing the entire line to a halt. In industrial applications, error tolerance is extremely low, so systems undergo much stricter testing. Of course, the same standards aren’t quite there yet for consumer use.

Hey! This topic is super interesting and very current. First off, we need to clearly separate industrial uses from domestic applications. In industrial settings, like factory automation or logistics, articulated arm robots are already highly advanced and optimized for repeatability and precision. The systems are designed to minimize risks: safety sensors, emergency stops, strict standards like ISO 10218 for human-robot collaboration. Of course, no one is immune to malfunctions or software errors, but the safety margins are huge. But when it comes to consumer applications, things get a lot murkier. A robotic arm at home that cooks for you or helps with DIY projects? Technically possible today, but long-term reliability and safety for untrained users is a real headache. A bad algorithm or a faulty sensor could cause household accidents… Imagine a robotic arm dropping a pot of boiling water or a sharp tool because of an AI failure. Insurers would have a field day! And then there’s the "updates" aspect: poorly configured AI could develop bad habits over time. Personally, I’m optimistic about industrial potential, but I’m still skeptical about consumer use until security protocols and redundancies are even more robust.
