Hi there, I'm considering switching to an electric vehicle. I've seen various methods to extend battery life in different sources, but which ones actually work? For example, is it harmful to leave the battery at full charge all the time, or are partial charges better? Does using fast charging damage the battery? What do you guys pay attention to? Would you mind sharing your experiences? I'd really appreciate your help!

Three years ago, I bought a Taycan Turbo S. In the early days, I can’t forget the nights I’d charge it to 100% and plug it in, constantly worried about the battery. When it dropped to 86% after six months, I panicked. Since then, I’ve been brutal on the battery—always trying to hit 100%, favoring fast chargers for trips. The result? After three years, the capacity dropped to 78%. Now I see what I was doing wrong. I started keeping it below 80% three times a week, especially if it was parked. I stopped plugging it in when it wasn’t in use. I only use fast charging when necessary, sticking to slow charging at home. Instead of leaving it plugged in overnight, I try to keep it between 30-80% with short charges once a day. When I tested it in January, the capacity had risen to 84%—a huge improvement for me. If you’re buying a new electric car, don’t overthink the battery chemistry. Lithium-ion packs are tough; the real enemy is constant full charges and deep discharges. My experience shows you should avoid going below 20% and resist keeping it at 100% all the time. Finding the balance between safety and performance really works.
