Governments should act as the enablers of that infrastructure rather than the arbiters of every algorithmic decision. They need to mandate open standards, fund the backbone communications, and create a liability framework that splits responsibility between software providers, OEMs, and the municipality that supplies the sensor data. By keeping the regulatory focus on data integrity and system verification, we avoid the pitfalls of trying to micromanage every ethical scenario inside the car’s AI. Societal acceptance will follow once the public sees transparent safety metrics.
