The recent rollout of Tesla's Full-Self-Driving (FSD) beta has reignited discussions about when truly autonomous cars will become mainstream. While the software now supports lane changes, navigating complex intersections, and limited city driving, many users report mixed experiences depending on road conditions and sensor perception. This development highlights the broader industry push toward OTA updates as a primary method for improving vehicle capabilities post-sale. It also raises questions about regulatory frameworks and liability when software decides the vehicle's actions. How do you think the balance between innovation speed and safety validation should be managed? What impact might this have on the future of EV adoption?

I’ve been testing the FSD beta for a few weeks now, and the first time it nailed a left turn at a downtown four-way without any prompting was both impressive and nerve-wracking. I was driving on a rainy evening in Austin, and the system hesitated for a split second on the amber before smoothly merging into the lane and completing the turn. It felt like the car was actually “thinking” about traffic flow, not just following a pre-set script. That said, a couple of days later, I hit a construction zone where the lane markings were half-faded; the car stalled, flashed a warning, and asked me to take over. I ended up manually steering around a slow-moving dump truck while the FSD kept the speed steady. The contrast between those two rides made me realize that while the software can handle a lot of everyday scenarios, it still relies heavily on clear visual cues and well-maintained infrastructure. Until those edge cases are ironed out, I’ll keep my hands near the wheel—just like I do with a budget PC build: always have a backup plan when the cheap parts start hiccuping.

Does anyone know if the FSD beta can reliably handle those tricky multi-lane roundabouts, or does it still require a lot of driver intervention in those situations?
