Recently, while working on a project, I needed to animate the static images I had. Just as I was thinking, "After all this effort, I should probably turn it into a video too," a friend told me, "Try DALL-E 3, man—it even does video now." I gave it a shot and simply typed in the prompt: "an animation of a cat's head growing and shrinking according to its size." The result? A 4-second, ultra-smooth animation that looked almost real. It’s not quite professional-grade yet, but even in my first try, it was on par with what a mid-level animator could produce in a few hours.
I think this technology is going to revolutionize advertising, social media content, and the lower tiers of the film industry the most. For example, a small agency could replace the hefty invoice they pay for storyboard creation with a few prompts and get the job done in minutes. Of course, this also stokes fears of "turning cheap work into cheap labor," but that’s also the most exciting part of it.
