With the recent release of Django 5.0, discussions around planning for the LTS (Long-Term Support) version are gaining clarity. Feedback from the community highlights performance improvements and expanded async support as key priorities. Database optimizations and innovations in the ORM layer are also top of mind for developers. What features are you looking forward to in this LTS release? Which topics should take precedence in future developments?

Last year, I went through significant migrations in both maintenance and performance with Django. After upgrading our project to Django 4.2, we saw a response time improvement of up to 30% in POST/PATCH requests thanks to our customizations addressing N+1 problems in the ORM layer. Now that we're moving to LTS 5.0, especially with the expanded async support, we're looking to phase out Celery for our background tasks—this will allow us to serve more concurrent users with the same server resources. On the database side, I'm expecting deeper integration with PostgreSQL's JSONB feature. Specifically, in scaling experiments on an e-commerce project, we noticed that querying JSON fields created a serious CPU bottleneck. I hope Django ORM introduces optimizations in this area; otherwise, we might have to resort to raw SQL.
