Do you think Django REST Framework will dominate new projects until next year, or are alternatives starting to emerge? Especially in terms of performance and maintenance, what should young developers pay attention to? How reasonable is it to switch to FastAPI, Flask, or another framework? How bright do you think DRF’s future is? 🤔

DRF is still really solid, bro, especially when working within the Django ecosystem. There are a few things young devs should keep in mind regarding maintenance and performance: since DRF uses Django’s ORM, performance can be limited, especially in queries that require a lot of joins. If your project is under heavy stress, it might make sense to switch to FastAPI and take advantage of its async support, honestly. Flask can also be a good choice for simpler projects, but in typical REST API setups, I’ve always been satisfied with DRF in terms of backend stability. I think young developers should ask themselves: "Does my project need real-time capabilities? How much data volume am I dealing with?" If it’s not real-time and the database relationships aren’t too complex, DRF still lets you set up an API the fastest way possible. But if you need top-tier performance, it’s worth checking out FastAPI. DRF’s future looks bright because Django’s popularity isn’t going anywhere, but alternatives are evolving too, of course.
