Windows 7 and above: What will happen to end-user support?

Recent discussions about the end of support for older Windows versions have really heated up. There are still some versions that are preferred in both corporate and personal use. So, how logical do you think Microsoft's stance on this is? If you're forced to use older systems, what approach do you take? What solutions can be tried when a direct transition isn't possible?
