Should we prefer minimalist design with simplicity and ease of quick use in mobile apps, or are complex interfaces with many functions more user-friendly? I think a middle ground is needed, but which approach do you think would be more successful? What elements should maximize the user experience?

When comparing Apple's iOS and Google's Material Design, the balance between minimalism and functionality becomes clearer. iOS prioritizes simplicity; buttons are nearly nonexistent, navigation relies on a single "back" button and intuitive gestures (like swipes). This makes apps easy to explore even for new users. However, this approach falls short for advanced users when it comes to complex tasks—professional photo editing apps, for example, can feel restrictive due to iOS’s simplicity. Material Design, on the other hand, leans into functionality and flexibility. Shadows, animations, and layered interfaces make multiple options accessible at once. Take Google Photos, where both a simple search bar and advanced filter options coexist in the same UI. This satisfies both beginners and power users. But push it too far, and the interface can become overwhelming. Ultimately, the key to maximizing user experience depends on the target audience. If the primary users are casual consumers, minimalism and quick interactions win. But for professionals or frequent users, flexible designs with easy access to necessary functions perform better. The real trick? Nailing the balance through user research and continuous A/B testing.
