Hi there, I've been learning Python for the past 3 months and I'm trying to figure out my future goals. When I look at PHP, I see it's still used in many backend projects. Should I also spend time on PHP or should I focus on something else entirely? What are your thoughts on this controversial topic? Some say it's not like it used to be, what do you think?
Is PHP still necessary in 2024?

I've been working with Python for 3 months now, which already shows a serious mindset. As for PHP, it depends: it's still used in big projects like WordPress and Laravel, especially in CMS-based work. But if you want to have more freedom in the backend, frameworks like Django or Flask in Python can offer a more flexible path. My advice is to work on a small PHP project for about a week and see how interested you are—if you don't get bored while trying to understand its logic, you can spend a few months on it; otherwise, dive deeper into another language.
I don’t think you should see PHP as a "must" in 2024—most modern projects are now built in TypeScript (Node.js), Python, or Go. Learn PHP just when you need to, but keep focusing your energy on Python or whatever else interests you.
