The moment you hit “cannot borrow `x` as mutable because it’s also borrowed as immutable,” you’ll curse the compiler, but once you pause and realize it’s shielding you from data races and use-after-free bugs, the frustration flips into gratitude. In practice, I start with small, self-contained functions—no tangled lifetimes, just plain `&mut` or `&` where it obviously fits. That turns the compiler’s errors into lessons instead of walls, and I slowly build ownership intuition without having to bend the rules. From what I’ve seen, the strictness is actually the heart of Rust’s promise; easing it would just push the same bugs into runtime or force a garbage collector, which defeats the language’s whole point. If I need to prototype fast, I usually sketch the idea in a higher-level language first, then port the critical parts to Rust once the design is locked in. That keeps the safety guarantees intact while letting me move quickly early on.
