I'm curious, are the security settings in Windows 10 sufficient, or is there more we should do for extra protection? Especially, I'd like to know how to better secure data both locally and in the cloud. Thought it might be useful for those who don't know, so I wanted to get everyone's input. What do you all pay attention to?

Windows 10’s default security settings are built on solid principles, but most users don’t take full advantage of them. While Microsoft’s built-in Windows Security (formerly Windows Defender) does protect against basic threats, it often falls short against advanced attacks like zero-day exploits, targeted phishing, or data exfiltration scenarios. Without enabling BitLocker for strong encryption like AES-256, disk encryption remains off by default, leaving your data vulnerable if your device is lost or stolen. Regardless of your settings, keeping updates—especially critical security patches released on "Patch Tuesday"—automatically and without delay is non-negotiable. Let’s go deeper: instead of relying solely on local security, protecting your data in cloud scenarios (like syncing with OneDrive) requires going beyond Microsoft’s default settings. Files uploaded to OneDrive are labeled "personal" by default, but you’ll need to tweak sharing permissions to restrict third-party app access. Rather than just hiding content, using folder-level encryption (like VeraCrypt) and implementing a secondary backup strategy (such as encrypted external drives) isolates files from risk. Finally, don’t forget to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) and built-in Security Keys to block even simple password-based attacks.
