I'm planning a mid‑range gaming rig with a $1500 budget. The storage side could either go for a high‑capacity NVMe drive that holds many games, or I could allocate more of the budget to a slightly faster graphics card. Considering factors like load times, graphical performance, and future upgrades, which area generally gives the most noticeable improvement for the average gamer? Would you recommend focusing on storage space first, or is GPU speed still the priority?
Should I prioritize larger SSD capacity over a faster GPU when building a $1500 gaming PC?

If you’ve got $1500 to work with, the GPU still eats up the biggest chunk of real‑world performance, so I’d keep the graphics card as the priority. In my last build I went with a 1 TB NVMe (fast enough for low latency) and saved the remaining cash for a RTX 3060 Ti. The extra storage let me keep a decent library of modern titles installed, but the jump from a 3060 Ti to a 3070 Ti showed a clear frame‑rate boost in most AAA games, whereas moving from a 1 TB to a 2 TB drive only shaved a couple of seconds off load times.
That said, don’t skimp on the SSD completely—make sure it’s a PCIe 3.0 (or better) NVMe with at least 1 TB, so you’re not constantly juggling space. If you hit the 1 TB wall later, you can always add a secondary SATA SSD or a cheaper HDD for the bulk of your backlog. But for the average gamer, a solid mid‑range GPU will give you the most noticeable improvement in gameplay.
For most games the GPU still has the biggest impact on frame rates and visual quality, so I'd put the extra money into a faster card first and aim for at least a 1 TB NVMe drive—enough for your current library and you can add external storage later if you run out.
