Hey folks, could anyone explain if modular PC setups really sacrifice any performance compared to monolithic ones, or is the difference negligible? Also, how much does the ease of upgrading factor into the overall value of each approach?
I've been there too—promised myself I'd never touch a prebuilt monolit PC again after my first "gaming beast" turned into a paperweight from overheating. That wasn't even the biggest headache though. Components were soldered in place like it was some kind of corporate decision to make our lives harder. Want more RAM? Time to swap the motherboard and pray the power supply can handle it.
Switched to a full modüler setup after that disaster—like night and day. Last year I upgraded my GPU just by popping out an old card and slotting in a new one, no soldering skills required. Even the RAM upgrade was a breeze with the side panel off. Took me less time to swap out a CPU cooler than it used to take to find a screwdriver that actually fit one of those darned proprietary cases.
