When you’re trying to squeeze a decent PC into a tight budget, the first thing to understand is where the real bottlenecks show up in day‑to‑day workloads. For office tasks, spreadsheets, and web browsing, the CPU doesn’t need to be a beast—something like a Ryzen 5 5600G or an Intel i5‑12400 offers plenty of headroom without breaking the bank. What matters more for those workloads is a smooth memory subsystem, so I’d aim for at least 16 GB of DDR4 (2666 MHz or faster) right out of the gate. That gives you enough RAM to keep several apps open and lets the OS glide past the usual “memory pressure” warnings. Storage is another low‑hanging fruit where you get a noticeable speed boost for pennies. A 500 GB NVMe SSD will shave seconds off boot and load times, and you can always add a larger SATA SSD or a cheap HDD later for bulk storage. The cooler you spend on a CPU cooler should be proportional to the TDP you’re dealing with—stock coolers on these mid‑range chips are adequate for non‑overclocked use. If you’re planning on gaming or occasional rendering, invest a modest amount in a decent 120 mm tower fan; it’ll keep temps in a safe range without turning your case into a noise machine. Finally, think about the upgrade path when you pick a motherboard. A B550 or B660 board with a decent VRM and at least two M.2 slots gives you room to add a dedicated GPU later, upgrade the SSD, or even swap in a faster CPU if the socket supports it. Leaving a spare PCIe slot free is wise, but don’t overpay for high‑end features you won’t use now.
