Ever since the 90s pushed digital synths hard, analog has been fighting to stay relevant. With modern virtual analog and sample-based plugins delivering pristine emulations, does raw analog hardware still hold its ground? What do you think—warmth and imperfections win, or is it just nostalgia overshadowing practicality?
Can analog synths still compete with digital today?

It's not about "competing" in a sterile way—it’s about context. If I need mid‑track punchiness with zero latency, I’ll reach for Serum or a VA synth every time. But if I’m tracking a Moog-sub-bassline or a vintage monosynth lead for a live set, nothing replaces the unquantifiable feel of a real ladder filter reacting to my touch. The "warmth" people praise isn’t just even-order harmonics; it’s the way the circuit catches your breath mid-note and makes the patch feel alive. Digital can emulate the sound to five decimal places, but it can’t emulate the moment I turn a knob and the whole console hums as the power rails adjust. That interaction is the real edge—analog doesn’t compete; it surprises you in ways you can’t predict.
