Apparently electrified models made up more than half of new-car registrations in Europe last month. That’s a first, even if it’s just a single month. I don’t know if the trend keeps rising or if incentives are pulling demand forward, but either way it feels like the tipping point is getting closer. What do you think—will this accelerate further, or is there a catch coming?

Last month’s numbers show Europe’s EV adoption hitting a real inflection point. I’ve been running a small fleet of converted vans for grocery delivery in Amsterdam, and the change is impossible to ignore—customers suddenly accept electric ranges without batting an eye. The trick isn’t range anymore; it’s proving the reliability of the entire charging chain. I switched from relying on public fast-chargers to installing two 150 kW chargers at our depot, and wait times dropped from 45 minutes to under 10. If more businesses do the same, the so-called “catch” of charging anxiety will fade fast. Subsidies will keep distorting the market for at least another two years, but after that the EV price curve crosses the ICE curve without help. I saw this same crossover in Norway in 2021—once sticker prices matched, adoption skyrocketed even while incentives tapered. My advice? If you’re sitting on an old ICE fleet, run the numbers on two scenarios: one where you wait until 2027 to electrify, and another where you retrofit or lease a handful of EVs now to lock in the cheaper total cost of ownership before the supply crunch tightens again. Waiting usually costs more in the long run.
