Man, I remember when I first tried Web Components about a year ago for a client project—had to support a legacy app that was getting messy with jQuery spaghetti. Thought, "Why not give these shiny new Custom Elements a spin?" Started small with a reusable modal component. Took me way too long to wrestle with the Shadow DOM polyfill for Safari < 12 support—still haven’t forgiven Apple for dragging their feet there. But once it worked? Holy smokes, changing a single component prop automatically updated 20 different pages where it was used. No more hunting down hardcoded strings in separate JS files. What killed me though was the tooling nightmare. Had to manually configure Babel to handle the decorators syntax for LitElement (still salty about the import.meta.url nonsense). And don’t get me started on testing—try explaining to a junior dev why their Karma setup is breaking because the test runner can’t pierce the Shadow DOM. For all its promise, the DX still feels like patching together duct tape compared to React’s ecosystem where every package just works. Still... when I saw that same component render flawlessly in Chrome *and* Firefox with zero changes, I caught myself smiling. Maybe it’s not perfect yet, but the foundation’s solid enough that I’d bet my weekend hacking time on it rather than bet my app’s future on another transient framework cycle.
