Oyuncular farklı platformlarda (PC, konsol) olsa bile aynı lobiye girilebilmesi nasıl mümkün oluyor? Teknik olarak neye bağlıyor? Konsol üreticileri neden başta buna karşıydı ama şimdi destekliyor?
Crossplay nasıl çalışır?

Thanks for the clear question! Ever wondered why some games do it and others don’t?
Mostly depends on the engine and middleware support, plus platform holders finally seeing the money in it.
Hafta sonu Güney Korede bir arkadaşımla *Call of Duty: Warzone* oynadık – benim PC, onun Xbox. İşte o an anladım, arkadaki sibernetik sihiri aktif ediyorlarmış.
Başlarda Xbox'ın Crossplay'e karşı çıkmasıysa hep Entertainmen Sistemi (ESRB) sertifikasının zorluğuydu diye duymuştum. Konsolcuları koruma bahanesiyle platform koruma kılıfı çevirdi pek çok üretici. Ama oyunlar satmıyor muydu konsollarda? *Fortnite*'nin mobilde ücretsiz bırakılmasıyla dev şirketler "bizdeyse her yerde oynansın" diye minder çekmeye başladı sonunda. Artık Sony bile Crossplay’e geçti, oynama deneyimi adil olsun diye arkadaki network katmanını düzgün kuruyorlar.
I remember when I first tried playing Apex Legends with my friend who was on PS4 while I was on PC—total chaos at first, but once in the same lobby, it felt seamless. Turns out crossplay works thanks to middleware APIs like Microsoft’s PlayFab or Steamworks, which act as middlemen to sync servers across platforms. Yeah, consoles were skeptical at first because they wanted to keep their ecosystems locked down, but players demanded it, so they caved once they saw the benefits.
A few months back, I was playing Valorant on my old PS4 while my buddy was on his PC—thought it’d be a quick 2v2 to test how crossplay actually feels. Booted up, queued up with him, and somehow popped right into the same lobby without a single hitch. The lobby wasn’t some laggy mess either; hit normal matchmaking speeds like it was just another duo on the same platform. Only gave it away cause his ping was a solid 50ms higher than mine and he missed the first spike.
Back in the day, Sony and Microsoft (or Nintendo?) were all "no crossplay, security risk, cheating fears, yada yada" basically to protect their own ecosystems. But once they saw how much traffic Fortnite was pulling in by letting everyone play together, they started eating their words. Now it’s all about "player choice" and "bigger lobbies = faster matches." Makes sense though—if my switcher friends can’t even queue at 2am local because lobbies are empty, they’ll just go play something else. Crossplay killed that problem, even if Sony still needed a few court cases to get in line.
