Been messing with Redstone for years, and the single biggest lesson is that signal loss is your worst enemy when scaling up. Best trick I use is torches with repeaters in a "ladder" setup—each repeater maxed to 4 ticks (≈0.4s delay) to keep the current flowing without degradation. Throw in AND gates with comparators feeding into each other and you can chain entire farms together without ever needing a single block of solid redstone dust. Saw this trick first in a 2019 Hermitcraft ep where Joe played with villager trading hubs—total game changer for city-wide systems.
For complex builds I build in layers: first the "power source layer" (button/lever → pulse extender circuit), then the "logic layer" (sequencers, latches, or even simple flip-flops), finally the "output layer" (doors, dispensers, or observer chains). Keeps debugging manageable when a redstone trail spreads across 100 blocks. Once had a melon farm go haywire because I skipped the buffer gate—took three hours to trace the ghost pulse through a single soul sand bubble column. Lesson learned: every major junction needs a buffer gate, no exceptions.
