I’ve actually seen a similar case with the Asian tiger mosquito when I was on a short trip to Italy a few years back. The locals warned us that those mosquitoes had hitched rides on cargo trucks and even on passenger luggage from the Middle East, not on commercial flights. By the time we realized it, they were already breeding in the city parks and biting everyone, and the health alerts about dengue and chikungunya started popping up. So, while it’s tempting to blame a plane for the “killer flies,” the more plausible route is usually through cargo or personal belongings that cross borders unnoticed. In our own country, we’ve had a few isolated reports of exotic flies showing up near ports, but they never turned into a widespread problem—mostly because quarantine checks caught them early. Still, it’s a good reminder to keep an eye on any unusual insect swarms, especially if you travel or receive shipments from regions where they’re common.
