How to discover and support quality local films in my area?

I'm new to the local film scene and want a systematic way to find good indie and regional productions. What general methods do you recommend for scouting titles—like checking community calendars, attending film festivals, joining local cinema groups, or using online platforms that focus on regional content? Also, how can I effectively support these filmmakers (e.g., attending screenings, sharing on social media, volunteering)? Any tips on networking with local directors or film schools would be helpful. Looking for a step‑by‑step approach that works without relying on specific services. How do you all stay in the loop?
