Spring training’s just wrapped up and I’m trying to get a handle on how teams manage pitch counts and innings for pitchers without killing their arms early. Seems like every year there’s another “ace on IL” story, so I’m curious—what’s the general approach you folks use to balance performance with long-term durability? Pitching rotations, innings limits, or something else entirely?

I’ve seen teams use a mix of pitch counts (like 100-120 max per start) and strict innings limits per season, especially for young arms. My cousin’s in the minors, and his team won’t let him throw more than 160 innings in a year—no matter how well he’s pitching. It’s brutal sometimes, but they’ve kept him healthy so far.
