In many CrossFit workouts you see both heavy lifts and high‑intensity metabolic circuits. From a training adaptation standpoint, does emphasizing strength sessions (e.g., squats, deadlifts, presses) early in the week provide a better foundation for the conditioning work that follows, or could it compromise recovery and performance in the metabolic portions? I'm curious about how athletes balance these priorities to avoid overtraining while still improving both strength and work capacity. What’s your experience or coaching perspective?
Should strength work take precedence over metabolic conditioning in CrossFit programming?

I’ve found that doing the heavy squats and deadlifts early in the week (Mon‑Tue) actually makes my conditioning sessions later (Thu‑Fri) feel smoother because the nervous system is still fresh for the lifts, and I can recover enough for the high‑intensity circuits. Just keep the volume moderate and give yourself a solid rest day or light skill work in between, and you won’t sacrifice work capacity.
